Vodafone Dashboard v9.1.2 – Vista 64bit support
After a gentle prod from Great_Date, here’s a post with the latest version of the full PC dashboard for mobile connect users. The key feature of this release is the support for 64bit editions of Windows Vista – it’ll even allow you to use your Huawei E220 / Vodafone USB Modem. The full list of 64bit devices includes:
- Option GlobeTrotter Nozomi (HSDPA PC Card)
- Option Fuji Lite (7.2 ExpressCard)
- Option Colt (3G only PC Card)
- Huawei E220 (HSDPA USB Modem)
- Huawei E618, E620, E621 (PC Cards)
- Huawei E800, E870 (ExpressCards)

Matt_P,
not sure what it is you are asking exactly. Can you clarify? You asking how to get Vista to recognise the modem, or the Voda s/w?

Hi- can this solution work for 3 in Ireland?

Hi there- can you provide any further info to a very frustrated three customer who can’t get the 3datamodem to work on Vista 64 Home Premium edition, particularly the point about pulling the drivers out of the voda package. thanks
Hedz
Hi
Will this work with XP x64 as well. thanks
Great_Dane
Goose……best thing to do is install the Vodafone software completely, with the USB modem plugged out. The package includes the drivers for 64-bit version of Vista.
Once installed, hook up the 3 modem and give it a few mins, and Vista should attempt to install the drivers for the modem. Once it comes back and says it can’t find the drivers, choose ‘I do not have the disk …….’ or something to that effect, and then select ‘Manually search for drivers on my computer’…..then point it to the System 32 folder. It should pick up the drivers there and then all should be well.

Hi folks,
While working on the 64bit Vista and Vodafone E220 problem for a customer I compiled all the info I could find from this site and fatcat etc. To save me having to go through the hassle again and to save some others I’ve posted a step-by-step (more or less!) here: http://www.evolveonline.ie/blog/2008/05/how-to-install-vodafone-huawei-e220.html
Hope it helps.

Vodafone’s femtocell won’t improve mobile broadband
Vodafone UK have just announced the availability of thier new “3G coverage booster”, aka a 3G femtocell. This little box of tricks plugs into your home broadband connection and routes calls over the internet and onto Voda’s network. This is welcome news for those of us with 3G handsets who are unable to access data services or make reliable voice calls due to poor coverage.
However, it’s not great news for mobile broadband users. Although it’s unclear if the femtocell supports higher speed technology (HSDPA), the fact that it routes the data over your ADSL connection should be enough reason to rule it out. If you’ve got ADSL at home, why bother using your mobile broadband allowance when fixed line is far cheaper and faster?

E220 7.2Mbps Firmware – version 11.117.10.02.00
Big thanks to the guy’s who pointed out that there’s a new firmware available for the E220. Version 11.117.10.02 continues to bring 7.2Mbps support to the modem and is a recommended update for all users.
You can download the installer from M1’s website, or download a cached copy here.

Improving your mobile broadband coverage

Great post here from Farmers Weekly – not on my normal feed list but could be one to add… A farmer in the UK has been struggling to get decent mobile broadband speeds from his three dongle so he’s stuck it on a tube and hoisted it 6 meters into the air!
