Huawei E220 Vista Firmware Update (Updated)
Ok, we've got some great news for you - it's now possible to update the Huawei E220 / USB Modem to support Windows Vista, but without having to use a Windows 2000 / XP machine! There's an extra hoop you need to jump through, but the whole process shouldn't take more than 10 minutes. Again, this is just for Vista 32 bit editions. Here's what you need to do:
- First, you need to apply a small update to the USB Modem to allow Vista to update the firmware. Download this executable and run it. You only need this step if you're performing the update on a Windows Vista machine.
- Now, you need to update the firmware - this will allow the device to be recognised by Windows Vista without it throwing a fit. Download this executable and run it.
- Now it's time to update the software / dashboard on the device to the latest version. Download this executable and run it.
That's it! Your USB modem is now up to date with the latest firmware and software and can now be used with Windows Vista. You might want to do this even if you're not running Vista as the latest software gives you SMS support, PIN support plus a few other fixes.

Hello there,
I have bought a datamodem at 3 network in Ireland, it is huawei e220 modem, I was told it should be running under Vista, I am having problems with installing the drivers though (It installs huawei e220 just as a mass storage device and refuses to continue installing the other drivers). I was just curious if i could run those 3 executables anyway, because obviously they are supposed to run for huawei e220 from Vodafone.
In other words if I install these executables, I might have problems with receiving the right data from the chosen network operator (3 would be gone...)
For example, there's a special offer from 3 network now: you pay 19.99euro per month for ultimate 10GB limit usage, which is - compared to Vodafone's offer 39.99euro per month for 5GB - a huge jump, isn't it?
Any help here?
Thanks :-)
Works like a charm!

Vista Home Premium
How would this affect warranty e.t.c seeing that that the company(vodafone product) has reluanched vmclite because they dont want to use huawei software..How would this affect if any ?
Hi
It takes a while to sort and unzip the file. Once your computer/vista recognize the software and modem, it applied easily. Anyway, thanks for this. I still remember, when windows upgrading happen, all these compatibility will remain a problem.
Adios

Hi,
Thanks for this sollution! I was about to give up Win Vista.
This was very easy to install, and I got it working for Telefonica Spain, without the 3rd step about "update the software / dashboard". Is step #3 needed? If I intall it, will it affect Telefónica Dashboard?
Will this work for my GRANDSON?!
he has the vista and plays with the wireless card but won't work
i will give to my GRANDSON to try
Hi there,
Sounds great, but I've some questions:
You wrote:
First, you need to apply a small update to the USB Modem to allow Vista to update the firmware. Download this executable and run it. You only need this step if you’re performing the update on a Windows Vista machine.
My questions:
Why and how can I update the firmware (on the modem obviously) on Vista with this executable, when Vista is not recognizing the modem yet? Do I have to do this on a XP machine? But you wrote 'but without having to use a Windows 2000 / XP machine!'
You wrote:
Now, you need to update the firmware - this will allow the device to be recognised by Windows Vista without it throwing a fit. Download this executable and run it.
My questions:
Again download an executable to update the firmware, so Vista will recognise the device. I thought I already updated the firmware with your previous executable?
And again, how can I update the firmware when Vista is not recognizing it?
And can I still use the device on a XP machine afterwards?
Don't get me wrong, I haven't even tried it yet, I just want to be 100% sure before I try something out.
Thanks in advance for your answers.
Ieronymos
Fatcat,
Thank you for your quick reply!
You've answered all my questions and I'll try it out tonight.
It's good to know that I can use it on different OS, since I've both XP and Vista on my laptop and desktop.
I have to use them both because some software I'm using for my work is not working on both.
Again, thank you for your answers!
BTW: I'm a VF customer
Ieronymos
I'm a Movistar user in spain. Like Guillermo I have done steps 1 and 2 (with the modem always connected at the computer) and it works great. Fully compatible with "Escritorio Movistar 6.0".
Fair play to man me head was meltin' trying to get this to work
Does this also work on a Vista 64 bits system?
Does anybody know the date schedule of the 64 bit firmware release (Vista).
thanks in advance
Wolfgang
Hi FatCat,
Many thanks for the brilliant upgrade advice and links. It worked 100% the first time. I now have SMS support on my VMCLite dashboard. However, SMSs goes into the outbox but is not sent, and I am not receiving any. Any advice?
I am in Cape Town, Southh Africa and under preferences, service centre, I have selected Vodacom and the number 27829129 (which is supposed to be our local number).
Any advice?
Thanks

Hi everyone,
I have a big problem and have the hope, its only a problem which is a result of my Computerdumbness!!!
I tryed to realize your first step and download your executable, but if I try to install it, my PC tells me, that he cant find a software to run. What should I do???
Thanks a lot!!!!
Hey FatCat,
just wondering if you have any update yet on the 64-bit drivers? I'm with Three network here in Ireland, and they're advising that it will be august before drivers are available from Huawei.
Thanks,
Ian
You are a star FatCat.
Thnaks for the extremely prompt response. I feel my spirits lifting already. got a new laptop a few weeks ago and it's been sitting idel....in wait!
Thanks again,
Ian
I've installed the upgrade for the Vodafone Ireland network and although the modem works perfectly and can dial out and receive text messages - I am no longer able to connect to the network. Is there a roll back available?
Looks like when the firmware is upgraded it uses a different phone number to connect. Strange. Vodafone Ireland have no idea that this should even work and cannot yet talk about it! They were willing to cancel my bill for two months until they were ready to answer my question! The firmware upgrade is working fine with the second stage of upgrading the software (which I wasn't going to use as a straight forward dialup connection setting was good enough for me). It was only then I was able to notice the new number in the dialup settings.
Hello there for everybody. Just a week before i bought huawei E220, connected to irish network 3. My laptop operated Windows XP Professional, sucsefully installed, but doesnt recognized the modem. There was a lot of work to connect the modem to laptop. The basic problem was no software.I'm not a hopeless beginner, software absence can calllike noncence.Anyway,i'm glad somebody doesnt had problem to install E220. And may be somebody knows where from can i get(download) needed software ?? Thanks in advance and good luck for everyone! P.S.-sorry about grammar mistakes-i'm not an English..
At last .....
Vodafone Ireland connection !!!!!!!
Got a decent connection using the above steps. Still a bit of a problem getting the connection but at least now I am getting a 3G connection rather than GPRS with the XP version.
Thanks ..... Just have to wait for Vodafone to get up off their behinds now and provide us with all the necessary.
Cheers .....
Hi,
Gizmo I was wondering if you got it to work.

Hello,
good job for the post... thanks a lot!
I am asking if the Movistar Dashboard comes out someday afore ;-)....
Hi again,
Tried step one but patch acn not find the USB modem - (Datacard not found messgae) - I am trying it with a 3 Ireland modem on a Dell Inspiron 6400 with vitsa home premium on it.
Any help will be appreciated.

Hi all,
Maybe everyone has tried this, but the following worked for me. I tried the above method but could not the past the 1st step. I came accross a SA posting on a website that had a word document attached and it mentioned pointing vista to the System32 folder when broswing for the driver in the intall phase.
I tried this and after a few driver intsalls (storage device, CD Drive(?) & the modem) bingo I am on line and posting this. I am using (as last post) the 3Ireland USB Modem on a 1 month old Dell Inspiron 6400 running Vista Home Premium with their latest software downloaded (3Ireland). Hope this helps someone.

Fyi i live in Indonesia, connect huawei with sim indosatm2, thx
Hi fatcat,
just wondering if there's any movement on the 64-bit? You mentioned about 2 weeks ago that Voda had a fix, and you were hoping to have something from them in a few days.
Desperately waiting,
Ian
Got a problem with Huawei E220 on Vista. I did all the upgrading about 2 months ago and everything went hunky dory. Then suddenly yesterday I lost my ability to connect to the internet. The modem and dashboard tell me that I have a strong signal and am connected but it has lost contact with the internet. I contacted Voda Ireland but they tell me that they offer no support for |Vista until at earliest August 1 and that the vista updates now in use are not official. Any similar experiences or ideas please?
Just posting for the benefit of thos who are not with vodafone, but are using Vista 64-bit and the Huawei modem with another network.
If you install the Vodafone dashboard (64-bit) that Fatcat has linked (or just pull out the Vista drivers and drop into System32 folder), then uninstall your existing GUI (if istalled) i.e. 3 Ireland, restart Vista, then re-install the modem. When Vista says it cannot find the drivers for the modem, point it to the System32 folder........and the modem should complete it's installation and you should be good to go.
how about network aside from vodafone? will it work? i'm from ireland and i have huawei e220 with 3g network. can I follow the same procedure as above with no harm? thanks in advance
Hey Camilo Casa,
I'm also with 3 in Ireland, so yes, you can carry out the above instructions without doing any harm. Let me know how you get on.
Great Dane- Could you cast your eye over my problem above (Jul 17), My E220 Voda ie 3 G worked perfectly on my Vista Ultimate (d/top) until last week. Now dead although it works ok on my XP laptop. Cannot get the l/top to share the i/c with the d/top though and all of my important stuff is on the d/top. Any suggestions welcome as I am lost and don't know when and if Voda ie will produce a solution, They're not the most responsive.
Hey, í´m from Austria. Are there any news about drivers for Vista 64bit OS?????
Please answer
Sniper,
see comment # 35 above, and also Fat-Cats post on the front page of this site.
Brendan_Tierney,
have you checked your internet security settings on the d/top to make sure they haven't changed and that they are not interfering with the USB modem i.e. firewall etc?
On the sharing of the I/C, are you trying to do it with wi/fi? If so, the connection wizard on the laptop should guide you through it.
Also, try taking the SIM out of the modem and gently cleaning with a lint free cloth.
Have you tried running the 'diagnostics' tool on the dashboard?
i've done step one but it won't recogonise the modem for step 2 even though the internet is working grand. is it alright to leave it at this
Thanks
Hi, i completed the first step normally but when i try to do the firmware update it says that modem could not be found. At the start of step 2 a message says that during this process you will have to disconnect and reconect the modem once. I noticed that when the firmware application starts, the modem is automatically disconected. Should i remove it and plug it in again before i get the message "device is not connected"?
Thanks
Hi, its lots of pages saying about upgrade to Vista, but if someone want degrade back to winXP ? I know that after upgrade its work ok with Vista and also with windowsXP, but if someone realy want back old firmware and run it on Windows XP only, is that possible ?
Hi all,
I've already done step 1 and 2, and they proceeded nicely.. When I tried to apply the 3rd step, it took almost 13 hours, and until now, it hasn't finished... Is this normal, or something is wrong?
I'm using Windows Vista Business, and a Core Solo U1400 1.20 GHz.... I'm from Indonesia, and I'm using XL 3G.. Can somebody help me with this?
Thx in advance,
ivg
Ditto the above. I could not install the software in step 2. Initially the device could not be found; after several attempts including downloading and reinstalling the device was found; same message about connecting/disconnecting etc and after initial installation starts an error message comes up.
hello Great_Dane
i carried out the above instruction carefully, and what happen was the modemn is still working with 3g but not on VISTA. all the data inside the read-only memory was change with the vodafone Lite. and my problem now is how to white back the original files which i have backed-up before hand. it annoying because everytime I start my comp, the EULA will starts itself and i should be very carefull to click DECLINED so that i can connect with the 3 network. anybody can help me on how to delete the vodafone lite in it? or to flash back the original files and drivers which I have backed-up before hand?
Hey lads,
3ireland help please.
I followed all three steps flashed the e220 and now the card is locked in the voda network and not the 3 ireland. Just wondering if anyone rolled back the flash.
Thanks
Pointing to system 32 when installing, Vista found the drivers!
O2 customer,
Ireland.
Initially it didn't work, just unplugged and replugged modem and voila it connected instantly! I'm now posting through O2 broadband, ie through the modem.
Mon.
Hi, I did a big mistake!
I have done all the mentioned steps to have the E220 works on my sister new laptop! I am not a Vodafone user! I lost the orignal Huawei E220 software :(
I wanna get that software back. please help me.
Hi
I have a 3G modem from Three Ireland, and I need to undo all the steps outlined in this article as it changed the modem to Vodaphone. And my wife is going to kill me. Is it possible to undo the install - all 3 files.
Please help
Thanks

Dear,
I have installed your software the problem is the driver is not suitable for non-vadafone operartor. I used Indosat IM2, and not listed on this driver program.
The program works in XP but having a problem in Vista (non-vadafone). The IMEI Modem number unrecognize, I don't know why.
I'm Still searching the suitable for my Huawei modem.
Hy fatcat

I read you post, and through yeh that's what I need, and downloaded the upgraded and it all worked well until..
I tried to connect.. and you locked-down Vodofone specific version has converted my 3-modile modem into a vodafone modem, and will not now let me connect to the network
Hello everybody!
I'm failling to update the software or drivers for my Huawei E220 USB modem.I have tried step # 1 & a message pops-up that says that i'm not allowed access to the USB device. What do i do?
Please anyone who can tell me how to go about upgrading the firmware is highly appreciated.I'm in Botswana in a small village called Etsha and my service provider is mascom wireless.
Thank you in advance.
I applied update to the USB Modem to allow Vista to update the firmware by Downloading the executable and runing it.
then in 2nd step updated the firmware .
But when I tried 3rd step (update the software / dashboard on the device to the latest version.) It was for voda. From here my problem started as I am using 3 services, and this software doesn't allow me to connect to 3.
Can any one supply me with Dashboard/software for 3 network.
Thanks
HI FATCAT
Listen the second update is giving me problems, pls can you give me advice concerning this. It says something about error with firmware
Same problem as others re: Step 2, the wizard cannot find the device. Error message: "HUAWEI E220 HSDPA USB Modem was not found in the system; make sure it has connected to your computer.
Click retry when you are ready."
Sounds like you can unplug and plug in again, but even though the icon shows up as a USB storage device, nothing can make the wizare recognize the modem, see it, know it is there.
And here's the kicker: the same thing happens both on my Vista AND my XP machines. Since there's no option to browse to the location, I can't see how this can be overcome.
Here in Italy where I am, Vodafone tells me I have to take the modem in to an Assistance Center, they'll send it away, and then I have to come back and pick it up. I was REALLY hoping to be able to do this myself, but if you can't suggest a way around this....???
I didn't find developer support for USB Modem / Huawei E220 on Huawei Website.
Brilliant, now it works in Vista, only problem is....
since performing the firmware upgrade, I can only connect at GPRS speed in the same place where I used to have HSDPA. must be the firmware, because its the same when I connect using Linux and XP.
btw im at vodacom
Smeralda did you ever find a solution to your problem? Im experiancing the same thing on a Vodafone UK one.
At which point do I have to plug the modem to the vista box in this3 stage software upgrade. Does this work with VF in New Zealand? I am a VF subscriber in NZ. Thanks.
Hey smart buddies, i have vista home 32 in my asus here and tried to run the datacard updater with my e220 plugged in a usb port, it took some time to tell me at the end that it couldnt find the card. I downloaded all the three runners but the card needs to be recognized by the system first, so now what? Please help because the situation here is gettin very desperated.
A lot of thanks
I have HP Povilion, running xp
Having HUAWEI USB Mode E220, with vodafone logo
we don not have vodafone yet in Saudi Arabia, but I get it because it dos not have restriction as local operatores do.
- the Modem installation could not start on my HP labtop.
- then I have updated usb mode using the 3 steps mentioned in the top of this page using another PC.
- after that my labtop could recognize and install the softwares. but to my suprise the new software/dashboard is restricted to work on vodafone network only.
-Then after searching, I solve it as follow:
I dowloaded, unziped and Installed the Huawie software insteeed of vodafone one.
after unziping you will find two files run the one start with UTPS.
you can download from the following url:
http://www.huawei.com/mobileweb/en/doc/list.do?type=-1&id=736
Then after that I reboted the labtop and reconnect the modem, and started the just installed software named "Mobile Partner".
After that configer new profile by going to Tools, Options.
then select the profile and connect.
I hope it is useful.
Thank you Al-Harbi ,
This solved my problem I am using Windows Vista and had my device drivers installed,
But my dashboard was locked to Vodafone.
thanks

please do i realy need your help
Im from KSA
have updated to new firmware and running with no problems on win xp. Tried another update for second modem (similar) and forgot to remove software...running new update gave me big error and now my pc doesn't seem to recognice my modem...help!
I've ran two of the updates for a "3" E220 but can't get the software to pick up the modem? The modem won't work on XP either & both O/S give a "data modem invalid" error upon opening the software program.
Looking at all the issues here, how do they expect the average home PC/LT user to cope? to me it's a pile of junk that flops about and will probably break very quickly anyway.
I'm going to recommend a PCMIA data card to my client(s).
Thanks a great source of information I've bookmarked it :)
55. Asim. Go to a website called Vodacom at the following address.
1. www.vodacom.co.za
2. Click on link which is headed Welcome to Vodacom
3. Place cursor over "About Vodacom" and click on downloads in drop down menu.
4. Click on Mobile Data Downloads on left side of page.
5. Scroll down to Windows block and download file "Flash Software - VMC Lite 2.2.2.1 Zip.
Now scroll down further to Huawei E220 USB Modem (HSDPA Downloads)
Download Firmware file in this block. If you have a Vista machine also download and install on your Vista machine the file at the link above in this posting.
Once you have tese files place them on whatever machine you are using. If XP only use the two files ex Vodacom; If Vista machine use all three and do as per above instructions. If Vista and still does not install do what I did. I brought my Vista machine back to manufacturers original state, (That is did makers format). It then installed perfectly. I think the system became corrupted through wrong installing on old files so had to format. Don't forget to save all docs etc as these will be wiped when formatting.
HOPE THIS HELPS NOT ONLY YOU BUT OTHERS AS WELL.

I am also in South Africa. I suffered for 2 weeks to install HUAWEI E220 USB Modem onto a Pavillion HP Laptop. I just Praise God that they have a Manufacturers repair partition built into the machine which you can use to return it to original state ex HP.
Somewhere during the time I was trying "EVERYTHING" !!! to get the "BLESSED" thing to work, somehow one or other file I downloaded and installed on the machine corrupted the Operating System (Vista). The files that I installed were Bona-Fide Genuine HUAWEI files that simply did not work.If it were not for this posting I think we all would be in the ????? if you get my meaning.God Bless whoever found the link for the above mini-file to enable us to load direct onto a Vista machine. It works like a dream. If it does not work you must format using the HP repair consol provided that you have saved all your necessary files as they will be wiped off as per normal full format. The big thing with the HP repair is that it formats and installs at the same time. Hoorah for HP.
I don't know if the other Laptops and Desktop machines with Vista will allow the same repair when bought with OEM installations. Maybe someone else can help this forum with further info in this regard. All I know is that if the Vista is clean and original state it goes through the install of the modem like a hot knife through butter.
Again I trust this is going to help many people.
tHERE ARE MANY OTHER FILES AVAIABLE ON THE VODACOM SITE (See Posting 84 above for address)
Regards In888Him.
fatcat, this is what happened to me.
First update, there was extracting process on dos's window then another window appear said Applying patch, please wait. After that there was a window said couldnt find data card. The "applying patch, please wait" window still there and seems like it would take forever.
I close, reboot, plug out, even tried to go to next update but couldnt do it. what happened?
Tried to do first update without the e220 but it was asked.
Btw, when i plugged it in, my laptop asked to search driver for new device. what should i click?
thanks,
Kresna
This is strange. I use 2 provider in Indonesia. I use XL most of the time, but I use Mentari/Indosat for download (this is time based, not volume). I followed all 3 steps with XL card in it and works well on both XP and Vista. Then i switch to Mentari but it couldnt work. It is said roaming and should be Vodafone provider (or something like that).
I tried to re-install VCN (the last update) with Mentari/Indosat Card inside. But still not working. Still trying tough...

I am using Vodafone Egypt. Thanks for the update, However I went thru with step 3 directly since i am running on XP only. I tried step 2 to update the firmware but I noticed that the firmware level on my USB device is 11.110.07.02.37 which is higher than the supplied firmware 11.110.05.00.00
My question is, Do I have to update the firmware to be able to use it on vista or is it going to work automatically since it is higher firmware level?
thanks,
Omar
Hi All,
My firmware ver 11.110.05.00.00 and i just read here latest firmware is 11.110.07.03.00 and also found this article http://www.betterthan3g.com/clients/g35g/uploads/File/E220%20Vista%20Upg...
So where can i get the latest firmware version 11.110.07.03.00
Thanks.
Subject: Vista 64bit and Huawei firmware.
Hi. When I bought my e220 it came installed with vodafone firmware, which installs VMClite. This didn't have sms support, so I installed the full vodafone mobile connect software onto the computer to allow me to use the sms support. Unfortunately when inserting the modem it only wants to run off the vmclite firmware, and so the mobile connect software can't even access the modem. (Error message about modem being locked by another application)
The only work around at the time (as I read on forums) was to completely overwrite the vodafone firmware and replace it with huawei's own firmware (and their software). This worked fine, and I've been using it like this for months.
Now I have a new laptop with Vista 64bit.
My question now is: Can I flash the firmware again and replace it with vodafone's firmware (now that vodafone has 64bit support)
Either that or does anyone know of 64bit firmware upgrades FROM HUAWEI?
I've been told that if I try upgrade the firmware again, back to vodafone, it corrupts the modem. Is this true, if so how do I work around this?
Help would be appreciated.
Hey guys, I'm using this modem too. I bought it in Australia (3 Mobile), and now I'd like to use it with a Celcom SIM card (Malaysia). I've tried it and it didn't detect the SIM. Can I use the updater above to solve my problems?
I think 3Mobile just put a software lock in it.
Many thanks.
Hi, I have the e220 on my Vista laptop. I've installed all the latest drivers and it works fine. The only problem is if I disconnect it or the laptop goes into hibernate mode, I then can't reconnect and get the following error message...."A connection to the remote computer could not be established. you might need to change the network settings for this connection...."
The only way I can get the connection working again is if I reboot the laptop! If anyone has any suggestions (Vodafone don't have any!!!), please email me at gregcarey@eircom.net
Thanks
Please can anyone send me the '3' dashboard software I can upload to my '3' usb modem. I have committed a schoolboy error and didn't read down through the thread far enough, and didn't realise the dashboard was for vodaphone. I have already installed it on my xp2k media centre fine. I couldn't get it working on my girlfriend's vista laptop so was trying to follow the upgrade and went too far.
thanks
I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 with XP. It won't connect the T-Mobile HuaWei E220 USB modem. The USB drivers don't "see" the modem. The modem flashes green a few times, then flashes blue a very few times then gives up and so too does the laptop. It worked fine in the T-Mobile shop on their laptop, so they sent me home.
I also have a dell insiron 6400. Im running vista tho. I had bad connection indoors (green light/GPRS signal and 50kb/s speed). When i hung the thing out the upstairs window i got it turned light blue and i got an HSDPA signal. The speed went through the roof (over 1100kb/s on the manager).
I have no trouble with the signal, my USB drivers /XP appear to insist that I am connecting a drive, not a modem.
If there is anybody that have problems installing HUAWEI on Vista, I think I have solution. It just maybe requires XP computer before going on Vista, but just maybe it works without it (how come that I dont know?) cause I made 2 changes,1 on Vista then 1 on XP !
3 steps:
1. Get new software for Express card Vista, 9.2.4.7868, install it (don't install software from Modem 2.1.6 or others) uninstall if you have it (Before install of new software
2. Upgrade dashboard Patch (you have it on vodafone.de page, under Hilfe-support, search type HUAWEI 220 Vista, first link, download it (8 MB), you can update it on Vista
3. Restart, plug it in, and see what happens after restart (configure settins as you like, you have security settings under connections, I had to uncheck everything except PAP).
It should work, if not, then try to updating firmware in XP and then plug it in Vista computer, maybe restart needed.
I hope I helped it worked for me after few hours of testing all solutions..
Cheers.

Hey, My modem always worked on Vista, I wanted it unlocked so I could use foreign SIM cards in it when I went abroad for MB at the local rates.
Followed all steps - except 3 as I got HUAWEI Dashboard, but it still appears to be SIM locked. What should I do? retry steps 1 and 2 (or just 2, as it works in vista already) ???
Thanks
HI
Thanx for the info. I have a question. How can I configure the modem to auto start and auto connect immediately to the Internet without me first connecting it? This is because I do a lot of downloading with my scheduling download accelerator. So I could leave downloads running and then go somewhere and come back only to find the connection was interrupted and only 2 files were downloaded!
Is there any way to make it so that as soon as it disconnects it attempts to reconnect again?
Thank you guys so much
this thing doesn't work mann...don't try to help if you're sure about it. it might just make things worst...
lol xD

Can anyone tell me if they have the E220 working with one of the USB modem Wifi systems, such as this: http://www.wirelessnwifi.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_i...
I'm heading to Cairo, and will be using a 3.5G USB Modem (E220): http://www.etisalat.ae/index.jsp?lang=en&type=service&contentid=afd03763...
The landlord at my flat has the modem, but I'm hoping to connect it to a wifi so my wife and I can both be online at the same time
Many thanks,
Stephen
Hi,
I've downloaded all the three executables & i did the following steps,
1. Installed the software. It does it automatically when i plug my E220 on my Vista (32bit).
2. Then unzipped the first executable & it installed properly.
3. Unzipped the second executable but it's giving me an error saying "Device port not open". I checked Device Manager > Ports. There are few (at least 10) COM ports are visible in that tree. & Huewei is using COM-27 or something.
Can anyone give me any idea how to solve the problem ?? I've tried other USB Modem but none of them working as well. Using Sony Viao laptop & Vista-32 bit, Celcom 3G, Malaysia (Kuching). I've tried few shops but none of them managed to give me any solution. I used to use AT&T USB Modem but thts broken & after that i'm battling with my E220. Any solutions/suggestions ?? Thanks in Advance.

Every time I plug the Vodafone into a PC, it asks for drivers for the "data interface". Where can I find those drivers?
Found it! A bunch of searching, but drivers are at: http://www.nerve.org.za/mdma/huawei_drivers_2038SP09.zip
Take a look at www.business.vodafone.com for the latest support updates and software.

Thank you so much! I was having serious problems with a similar T-Mobile stick the E160. After running the first executable it seemed to do the trick and the stick then showed up correctly!
This has been a life saver as I need my laptop (Lenovo W500) when I'm on the move for work and there seemed to be jack all reliable information out there.
Once again thanks the guide was much appreciated!
Paul.
I can confirm that this works on Windows 2008 (64 bit) also. I have Optus mobile broadband using the Huawei e220 card.
Thanks a million for that, I got my Irish O2 broadband working on Vista by running the first 2 programs. Didnt need to run the software exe. You are a star!!

I am using the same modem on Safaricom Kenya ( an associate of Vodafone UK) and my question is a bit different. I would like to use the modem on a home wireless network so that I could share the internet with my pal. I have a laptop, desktop is wireless enabled, a linksys wrt54-GL wireless router. I was thinking of a way in which I can connect the modem to the computer and then share it to the wireless router via an ethernet cable and then from there I can access internet both on the desktop and my laptop. I am not sure of how I can exactly achieve this and if there is anyone out there with a solution, please share.
Thanks
before i tryed you update my E220 would come up as an cd room afterwards my computer asks only for driver for huawei mobile and when i try to install the firmware the software to install this firmware says it cannot find the device???????? hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
i think it has ruined my device
PS am using windows Vista and the information you wrote as follows:-
# First, you need to apply a small update to the USB Modem to allow Vista to update the firmware. Download this executable and run it. You only need this step if you’re performing the update on a Windows Vista machine.
# Now, you need to update the firmware – this will allow the device to be recognised by Windows Vista without it throwing a fit. Download this executable and run it.
# Now it’s time to update the software / dashboard on the device to the latest version. Download this executable and run it

you find new drive lettre ( like E: F: ...) and right click on it and select "Automatic execution" or "Autorun" and follow installation setup...Next.. Next... and restart you PC... you find in your deskyop a shortcut to "Mobile Partner" to start login to Internet ....
