I’m trying this ug and it’s running but still isn’t reconizing the modem on my pc so the firmware and dashboard arent’t running.

Can you help? Also is the vodaphone version of this card locked? or with the right apn setting (and the OEM software) can I use this on other networks? I.e US?

Hey Tim, sorry to hear it’s still not working for you. Do you have access to a Win 2k/XP machine – if so, it might work out easier if you run the upgrades with modem plugged into one of those machines.

When you buy the E220 from Voda, it is network locked. I’m not too sure if the network lock remains after you re-flash the firmware – I don’t have any non-voda sims to hand so can’t tell you.

Folks after 2 hard days trying to get the E220 to work on vista I have solved the problem which I thought I should share the solution withfellow strugglers. After installing the take installation I had a request for APN and then password on another menu which stated it required user name then password and then another further message you must be on a vodaphone net work this was frustrating because I was. I spoke to yes communications in manchester and this is how I solved it. Although I am an administrator on my machine. Do the following and the E220 will work

1. enter control panel
2. open user accounts
3. check to see if you are the administrator
4. look for the box turn user control on/off
5. uncheck (uac)user control account)
6. restart computer reinstall from start
7. product will now run as it should

I am only allowed to stay online for 2 hours exactly and then i have to restart my machine so it can work again. It shows an error warning that “flag is not set”. Hi Jason. The hardware platform for the E220 does support 7.2Mbps, however I’ve never seen the appropriate firmware update. One thing to bear in mind is that the E220 doesn’t have advanced receiver technology so even if it did support 7.2, it wouldn’t make much difference – here’s a link to more info: http://www.mobileconnected.co.uk/18/

i bought a “3″ usb modem. It’s unlocked, I use it to connect to a network here in my home country. After I downloaded the “E220 update vista.zip” and ran it, it flashed my modem so it runs a vodafone software instead of the originally 3 software. Now I can’t connect to any other network other than vodafone, anyone can help me?

Hi, i just bought the vodafone e220 and having massive problems with my laptop on vista, for some reason it comes up installing drivers then as soon as that happens it comes up device unplugged, but the device is still shown in the remove hardware icon at the clock area. i tried it on an xp maching and no problem. really fed up can anyone help me?

Hi, recently got a new laptop with vist installed. I have updated the firmware and software. Each time the application starts i get the following error code “Ras error code 633″. For the life of me I can not find the the conflict on my system. Has anyone experienced the same problem and what solutions have worked. Installing/reinstalling the modem and application have failed, there is also no other dashboard running.

I have Vista SP1, first install of the Huawei E220 on 3 network goes fine, shutdown the PC and restart and Bang! No 3 connection, cant make a new one, modem is in device manager, can open the mobile software and register on 3 but cannot connect, nothing solves the problem other than a format and reinstall of windows. 2 Different PC`s same problem. Having to network an XP pc and ICS to my Vista one. Any Ideas ?

IF ur ISP doesnot use static IP and don’t need password and user name to login. U can go to settings -> connection settings -> profile name could be anything -> authentication# u need to get it from your ISP and under APN u cam select static and ask for the APN form ur ISP. IF you are on 3 network

Daughter obtained a e220 in uk from vodafone. Present cel operator Virgin Mobile.
Tried everything in take 2 and above but the modem does not recognise the virgin sim card. Virgin is operating on a system of a local operater Cel C (gprs).
Mobile partner software is loaded on the modem. (firmware)
The latest software and firmware is loaded.
Any ideas.

Work-Around: You need another PC/Laptop and a USB Pen/Key Drive to do this:
1) Connect the E220 to your XP PC/Laptop
2) access the emulated CD Drive and copy all the Contents onto a USB Pen Drive.
3) Disconnect the E220 and the Pen Drive
4) Connect the Pen Drive to your Vista PC and install the software using the Autorun.exe file (Run as Administrator)
5) Connect the E220 – Vista will only recognize a USB Mass Storage Device and the emulated CD drive which it cannot access.
6) Open the Device Manager (in the Control Panel)
7) Look for the USB Mass Storage Device in the “Universal Serial Bus controllers” Section

If there are more than one USB Mass Storage Devices, right click each one,
select Properties, Details and then “Children”
If it says “Huawei” somewhere inside the Value, you found the right one.

8) Right click on the Mass Storage Device and select “Update Driver Software”
9) Select “Browse my Computer”
10) Select “Let me pick”
11) Uncheck “Show compatible devices”
12) Select “(Generic USB Host Controller)” in the Manufacturer Tab
13) Select “USB Composite Device” in the Model Tab
14) Finish installing the Composite Device driver
15) Afterwards, Vista will add another USB Mass Storage Device, and if you are lucky, also 2 “Data Interfaces”
16) If it doesn”t detect the Data Interfaces, disconnect and reconnect your E220.
17) Vista should now detect all the E220s Data Interfaces
18) When asked to insert the disk containing the drivers, choose “I don”t have the disk”
19) Enter the \Drivers\WinXP Subfolder of your USB Pen Drive
20) Repeat Step 18&19 for the second Data Interface
21) Start your Huawei Mobile Connect (Web”n”Walk Manager) Software, and connect :)

Thank you! It works! I really thought I stuffed it up but it really works.

I only saw the Take 3 Version while I was installing the Take 2. Well the short version of what I did;
I downloaded the 3 files onto a flash/pen drive, using my XP machine and then unplugged the vodem and the flash/pen drive and plugged them into my new Visa machine. Executed them in the suggested sequence… fell asleep … woke up … panicked a bit …. and then ran the vista installation program and then executed the VMC application and connected …. YAY!! and the world is now available to me!… HELLO WORLD!

Oops! …. I meant to mention that I have the Huawei E220 and running vista 32.

i’m in indonesia, i installed the software from earlier post for vista, it’s working… but the problem is… the connection only running for vodafone network. anyone knows how to solve this problem? thanks in advance

I have Linux Lite operating system on my new laptop, and i have the 3 mobile Huawei device thing. When i plug it in to the usb it comes up but wont install. I have tried clicking on all the exe install button things but nothing seems to work. If anyone can help i would be truly greatful. Thanks steph

I have updated my E220 to 11.117.09.00.00 . it say unlock but its not accepting any other sim. i think because its still running on 3 uk software. Any idea were can i find the generic software and is it safe to install and run it. Thanks

hey im using dialog internet via huawei modem. This modem has manufactured in china and named “Vodafone” in top. But dialog srilnka company provided me with this one to use their sevices.

After that i used another SIM to this gaget (mobitel – another telecomucation providers in SL) hoping that would also work, coz i this modem was degisn to vodafone but still wrks in Dialog.

But u know what would hav hapen. it didn’t wrk.. :-(

but this software (or the hardware or both ) should have custermized to wrk only in Dialog. But if it a hardware customization then this should have done in the factory. and if so there is no eaning of putting vodafone mark in this gaget. So the customization should be done locally or in other words software secific customization.

I want some hel to crack this thing and make it work on any network providers. hel me on this plzzzz
